Pacific Poker, our multi-player online poker room, was launched in 2002.
Pacific Poker offers members a variety of popular poker games, including Texas Hold'em-the most popular poker variant- in both fixed limit and no limit versions, in addition to other poker games such as Omaha High, Omaha High/Low, 7-Card Stud and 7-Card Stud High/Low.
Pacific Poker also has a practice play version allowing new members to hone their skills as well as a poker school. The software also allows members to review all hands in recent games in animated format.
Pacific Poker is available on two platforms, allowing new members to choose from either a download or a non-download version. Pacific Poker is currently offered in English and we plan to offer the download version in at least two other European languages in 2006. Members can choose to play either ring games or tournaments. Ring games generate a majority of the profits for Pacific Poker whilst tournaments drive traffic to Pacific Poker's website.
Ring games
Pacific Poker hosts poker games and charges a rake for each pot. The amount of the rake varies according to:
- table limits;
- number of players; and
- size of the "pot".
Pacific Poker has a "no-flop-no-drop" policy, which means that it only levies a rake on the pot in games that achieve the "flop".
The "flop" is a second deal of cards in some poker games such as Hold’em and Omaha when community cards are dealt face-up at the centre of the poker table. If players are willing to play, active betting on the poker game starts after the ‘‘flop’’. A flat rake rate is charged for Pacific Poker’s ‘‘no-limit’’ and ‘‘pot-limit’’ real-money-play tables. Variable rake rates apply for Pacific Poker’s other real-money-play tables. As such, for ‘‘no-limit’’ and ‘‘pot-limit’’ real-money-play tables, the maximum amount of rake will increase as the number of players increases.
The reverse is true for the other real-money-play tables, where the percentage of rake charged decreases as the table limit, number of players or pot size increase.
Tournaments
Pacific Poker charges its members a fee ("buy-in fee"), which comprises:
- a member's contribution to the prize pool; and
- a registration fee to Pacific Poker as the host of the tournament.
Pacific Poker offers its members a number of ''free-roll'' tournaments, which are tournaments designed to attract members to play at Pacific Poker's website by offering prizes such as free seats for winners to participate in bigger online tournaments and offline tournaments such as the Pacific Poker UK Open, as well as other tournaments for which no buy-in fee is charged. Tournaments were introduced by Pacific Poker in 2003.
